Fathom Events To Host The Exclusive U.S. In Theater Premiere of Stand! on December 1

"Stand! tells the important story of the power of collective action. Workers should see this film to learn not only about labor history but the important value of fighting for our rights and greater justice." -Richard Trumka, President, AFL-CIO

NEW YORK / LOS ANGELES -- September 16, 2020 -- Fathom announced today a December 1, 2020 one-night-only screening of the movie musical Stand!.  An immigrant Romeo & Juliet battling for love and a better life during a time of social upheaval, the film is set against the true story of the general strikes of 1919.  Directed by Robert Adetuyi (Stomp the Yard, Bring it On), and written by Danny Schur and Rick Chafe, Stand! stars Marshall Williams (Glee), Laura Slade Wiggins (Shameless), Gregg Henry (Guardians of the Galaxy) and newcomer Lisa Bell who delivers the show stopping original song “Stand.”  The film has been called “Hamilton meets Fiddler on the Roof meets West Side Story” by Reel Chicago.  Fathom will release Stand! through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN) for a one night only premiere event followed by a conversation with director Robert Adetuyi, composer/producer/writer Danny Schur and various stars.

  1. Stefan and his father Mike left family in Ukraine, fleeing for the New World, where they struggle to earn enough to reunite the family. Stefan is instantly smitten with his Jewish suffragette neighbor, Rebecca, but Rebecca's brother Moishe and Mike oppose the would-be couple. Returned soldiers, angry at the lack of jobs after the war, violently threaten the city's immigrants, including Emma, a refugee from racist violence in Oklahoma. When a movement develops for workers to leave their jobs in protest, a wealthy lawyer, pits all parties against each other in a dramatic and inspirational final stand.

“We are thrilled to bring this beautiful musical to US audiences,” said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt. “Stand! Is more than a typical love story, it’s a message of inspiration and change.  With most venues for the arts still closed, the movie theatre is the perfect place to experience this movie musical.”

“It's an inspiring and uplifting story, as relevant today as it was 100 years ago, and all told through Danny's beautiful original songs and score,” says director Robert Adetuyi. “While the events depicted in this film occurred over a century ago, the continue to provide inspiration for the social change we struggle to achieve today,” says writer/producer, Schur.
