Golden Boy Promotions, one of the preeiminent US boxing companies, sought a way to extend the live, ringside boxing experience from viewership on PPV and in restaurants and bars to a multimedia mega experience in theaters.
In 2009, Fathom met Golden Boy’s challenge of finding new ways to distribute its product and a long-term relationship was formed to bring the best in live world championship boxing events to theaters across the country. Fathom's live boxing events now deliver a communal spectator experience where fans can get lost inside the size, quality and sound of the event to the point where they feel like they're sitting in ringside seats.
Since the broadcast in 2009, Fathom Events and Golden Boy Promotions have worked alongside HBO and Showtime to offer boxing fans an alternative viewing experience for some of the highest profile fights. World-renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather, one of the most dynamic athletes in the world, has gone toe to toe with competitors on the big screen in eight live fight broadcasts, including the final fight of his storied 19-year career, High Stakes: Mayweather vs. Berto in September 2015. Five additional fights have also been presented during this partnership.
As a presenting sponsor, O’Reilly Auto Parts provides significant awareness for the in-theater events with promotions in more than 3,600 store locations nationwide and over $500,000 in radio media buys.
With more than 3 billion PR impressions, these live broadcasts have received coverage in major media outlets from ESPN, Sports Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal and all major boxing outlets. The success of the events is marked by nearly $5 million in revenue and nearly 300,000 attendees for the Mayweather events alone.
