BBC Worldwide partnered with Fathom Events to host a special event for American fans of its smash hit show, Sherlock. Crossing the pond for a special episode event January 5 and 6, 2016, Fathom was eager to help elevate one of television’s most popular shows to the big screen.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s portrayal of the popular sleuths leapt onto the silver screen for a nationwide viewing of “The Abominable Bride,” a special holiday episode. Audiences were also treated to a guided set tour of 221B Baker Street hosted by Sherlock cowriter Steven Moffat as well as a “making of” short feature the stars and the creators of Sherlock. Nearly 700 cinemas took part in the event resulting in it ranking an impressive 5th in overall box office grosses for Fathom events.

In response to the success Sherlock experienced among audiences, many theaters reported sell-out crowds and added second screenings for the detective duo. The event’s popularity resulted in the highest per screen average of all top 10 titles for both event evenings.
