In October 2010, the legendary musical Les Misérables celebrated its 25th birthday with an anniversary concert at the O2 Arena in London. The sold-out show featured more than 500 actors and musicians including Alfie Boe as 'Jean Valjean,' Nick Jonas as 'Marius,' Norm Lewis as 'Javert,' Matt Lucas as 'Thénardier,' Lea Salonga as 'Fantine,' Jenny Galloway as 'Madame Thénardier,' and Katie Hall as 'Cosette.’ Experienced by nearly 60 million people worldwide in 42 countries and 21 languages, Les Misérables is the third longest running show on Broadway. With such a legacy, commemorating the show’s anniversary could only be done in a spectacular manner.
For the occasion, Fathom partnered with Omniverse Vision and the show's producer, Cameron Mackintosh, to present Les Misérables in Concert - The 25th Anniversary Event, recorded live at London's famous O2 theater and broadcast to cinemas nationwide. The cinema event gave audiences an "insider's experience," as reunited cast members who had performed the musical around the world during the previous 25 years shared personal memories.
An alliance with some of Broadway’s strongest marketing partners helped the event garner mass appeal, which transcended generations. With teen heartthrob Nick Jonas in a major role, teenagers gladly came with their parents and seniors brought their eager grandchildren.
